The Sabine Formula
The Sabine formula was created and devised by Wallace Sabine in the early 1990’s when his employers, the Corporation Of Harvard University, asked him, to figure out the acoustical problems in a lecture room.
In the equation ‘Rt’ stands for Room Time, ‘60’ stands for the amount of decibels that the level of sound has to decay by before it’s stopped. ‘S’ stands for the absorbing surface area and ‘a’ is the acoustic absorbency of the room’s surfaces. To the left is the formula and the way that the formula is completed to attain the predicted reverberation time of that room.
